3 major difficulties:
- starting from Flumet, official ascent
This 14.6km climb is fairly regular, with gradients often between 6 and 7%, although there is a more sustained section at 8% for 1.350km. The last few kilometres will be easier to negotiate
- You'll have to work up a sweat from Beaufort all the way to the Col du Pré, with its 12.2km and 966m of gradient at an average gradient of 8%. But it's from Arèches onwards that things will get tougher: 15 twists and turns, with the gradient rising from 8 to 9.5%.
- You won't want to let your guard down on the return journey via the southern slope of the Col des Saisies, via another variant (Les Villes-Hauteluce) - 18km and 750m ascent.
